South Ayrshire Council Reintroduces Golf Season Ticket

South Ayrshire Council is delighted to announce the reintroduction of a traditional season ticket model, from Friday 10 July, following confirmation from the First Minister of the further easing of restrictions on Thursday 9 July.

When our golf courses re-opened on 29 May, we introduced a FLEXI-membership system in line with the Scottish Government guidance which was in place at that time.

As restrictions in relation to golf continue to ease, our golf team have been working hard behind the scenes on plans to reintroduce a more traditional style golf membership product. This will be launched from Friday 10 July and rolled out over the coming weeks. We expect that it will be fully operational by Saturday 1 August.

Our FLEXI-membership has proven to be extremely popular; so we plan to retain this, alongside the more traditional membership package.

In order to restart golf on 29 May, we adapted a geographic membership model to ensure compliance with Scottish Government guidelines. To allow us to continue to progress through the phases of recovery without a significant break in golf, we are now proposing to keep the geographic memberships in place until 1 April 2021.

To compensate for geographical limitations, we have discounted our membership prices, and golfers will also have the option to sign up for a FLEXI-membership if they wish to access an additional course.

Geographical memberships will be reviewed again as restrictions are relaxed, when we will look to reinstate an 8 course membership package.

We have also received considerable positive feedback about the increased tee time interval, the effect this has had on round times, pace of play and the more relaxed and enjoyable experience this has provided. Therefore, to allow us to fully assess its impact, we will retain the 10 minute tee time intervals, at least until the end of the playing season.

Information on all of our Membership packages and how to register for these can be found on our website: http://www.golfsouthayrshire.com/ .

More good news is that we expect that our golf clubhouses will be able to re-open on a restricted basis from Wednesday 15 July.

Councillor Siobhian Brown, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Economy and Culture said: "Our Golf team have worked really hard over the last few weeks to ensure we are ready to take the next steps in the phased return to golf.

"Golf plays an important part in the physical and mental wellbeing of many of our residents, and I'm extremely proud of the progress we've made so far in the local recovery of the sport.

"I'm sure the re-introduction of the more traditional golf season ticket will be great news for many golfers, and I'm delighted that we are in a position to be able to offer this very soon after restrictions ease further."
