We have some exciting updates about building works in South Ayrshire.
We now have the green light to start work on the new affordable housing development on Prestwick Main Street. The old Police station site has been cleared to make way for the main construction works which will start later this month, and will be complete by the end of 2021.
Work will also recommence later this month on an affordable housing development on Fort Street/Citadel Place. This will take around 12 months to complete.
There's also great progress towards the new Prestwick Educational Campus, which will replace Glenburn and St Ninian's Primary Schools and their associated early years provision. Initial work is underway on the new shared campus, which will be built on the site of the existing Glenburn Primary. Main works will start later next month with a target of Easter 2022 for completion.
We're also moving forward with the Riverside Public Events Space at the bottom of Ayr High Street, and a planning application for this area will be submitted next month. There has been an extended consultation process with the public and stakeholders over the last year, and you'll have a further opportunity to comment on the new proposals soon. We'll let you know when the consultation opens.
Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Peter Henderson said: "This is fantastic news for South Ayrshire as a range of projects get underway, providing affordable housing, an events space and further investment into our excellent education facilities.
"We're committed to making South Ayrshire a better place to live, and I'm sure the public will be delighted to see we are moving forward with these plans."
