Around 100 people attended the last event in September 2016
People in Prestwick and surrounding villages are being encouraged to show their support for local community groups by voting on their favourites. The Prestwick decision day will be held at Prestwick Academy between 11am and 2pm on Saturday 18 March.
A fund of up to £14,500 is available at the event, for community groups in the Prestwick area, with 25 community groups pitching to an audience of local people about their proposal and how it will benefit the community. After all the pitches have been heard, the audience will vote to decide which groups should receive funding. Groups can be funded up to £750 for use in local projects.
The event is part of a new way to encourage people to get actively involved in local decision making known as 'Participatory Budgeting'. South Ayrshire Council and the Prestwick and Villages Locality Planning Group is inviting people from Prestwick Airport & Monkton, Prestwick East, Prestwick West, Symington, Heathfield, and Newton North. Anyone over the age of twelve is able to take part in the electronic vote.
Claire Monaghan, South Ayrshire Council's Head of Communities said, "The last event was a huge success with more than 100 people turning out to give their support to 25 local groups.
"This time around there's a broad selection of community organisations looking to secure public backing to take forward their projects and we'd encourage as many people as possible to register to vote on the day.
"Our participatory budgeting approach is designed to give people a direct say on local decision making, with hundreds of people having already taken part in similar sessions this year. I'm sure this latest decision day will prove a huge success and look forward to hearing more about the successful groups."
The money was made available from South Ayrshire Council, Scottish Government, and the Big Lottery Fund.
The 'Decision Day' event takes place at Prestwick Academy, Newdykes Rd, Prestwick KA9 2LB on Saturday 18 March between 11am and 2pm. Anyone wishing to vote must register between 10am and 11:00am.
