New Council strategy supports local people to grow fresh food

Our food systems are critical to the health and sustainability of our communities and, in recent years, we have doubled the number of allotment sites available in South Ayrshire.

We want to do more to support local people to grow and access fresh food. We have therefore published our first ever Food Growing Strategy, which you can read here.

This strategy identifies even more land that can be used as allotment sites, as well as considering areas that could be used for community food-growing.

Councillor Ian Cochrane, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Environment said: "I am delighted that the Council's first ever Food Growing Strategy is being published.

"People are increasingly keen to grow their own food. Supporting sustainable local food growing delivers a range of positive outcomes from health and wellbeing to environment and economy.
