James and Agnes Hendrie recently celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary in Troon.

The couple, originally from Ayr, met while working together at the town's Gaumont Cinema where their love of cinema led to a long and lasting relationship. 1959 was the year when Ben Hur, North by Northwest and Carry on Nurse were big hits on the silver screen and also marked the important moment when the couple married, with the service taking place in the Cathcart Church in Fort Street.

The marriage proved to be an enduring success, and having raised their son Colin and daughter Helen, the Hendries now live in Troon.

James and Agnes were joined by South Ayrshire Provost, Helen Moonie, who congratulated the couple on their very special anniversary.
