People with the skills to make a difference to people in South Ayrshire are being given the opportunity to begin a career in home care. A recruitment drive is underway to find the next generation of staff, with multiple opportunities available across the area.

The Care at Home service provides essential care and support tasks and providing extended personal care such as bathing and dressing in a way that respects dignity and privacy at all times. Due to an ageing population and increasing demand there is a need to employ more people to work at sites across South Ayrshire.

To help achieve this a recruitment open day's being held at the John Pollock Centre on Monday, 20 November between 9:30am and 5:00pm, with staff on hand to give more information about the positions. Interviews will also take place on the day for eligible candidates, with flexible contracts of up to 12 months available.

Councillor Julie Dettbarn, Chair of the South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership Integration Joint Board said the roles would be rewarding for the right people, "We're committed to supporting people to live full lives at home and these positions will go a long way to supporting a wide-range of individuals in South Ayrshire.

"We're throwing open our doors to potential candidates, with multiple positions available to individuals that are good with people and who are motivated to take control of their own hours. Lack of experience is no barrier to becoming a good Care at Home worker, with training provided.

"We're serious about giving people meaningful jobs and with good career prospects and starting wages above the Living Wage these positions are a great way to get started. I'm hoping for a strong turnout at the John Pollock Centre, and with interviews taking place on the day we'll soon be welcoming our recruits into their new roles."

Allison Andrew is a casual Care at Home worker covering South Ayrshire. She said that anyone interested in finding out more about the sector should get themselves along to the recruitment day, "I'm employed as a causal Care at Home worker which is a rewarding job that I feel makes a great difference to the lives of vulnerable individuals.

"The job also offers good opportunities for training and career development and is definitely worth considering if you're in the market for a new job."

Full information for the available positions (including the documents people will need on the day) are available on South Ayrshire Council's MyJobScotland webpage.
