Communities in Dundonald, Maidens, parts of Ayr, Prestwick, Troon, and a number of rural properties are being given the chance to find out more about the new recycling service being introduced later this year at a series of roadshows. From December, two new bins will be used to collect 'Paper, Card and Cardboard', and 'Glass Bottles and Jars', with blue bins changing to 'Metals, Plastics and Cartons'.
Supported by Zero Waste Scotland, the Council is introducing an enhanced collection schedule between now and April 2019. The latest stage of the campaign will see the service introduced to around 9,500 properties with letters detailing the changes having being sent to all affected properties, with the new bins being delivered in November.
The latest recycling roadshows are scheduled to be held in October:
- Ayr Town Hall on Monday 22 between 2-4pm
- Troon Walker Hall on Monday 22 between 6-8pm
- Dundonald Montgomerie Hall on Tuesday 23 between 6-8pm
- Maidens Church Hall on Tuesday 23 between 6-8pm
- Belmont Academy on Wednesday 24 between 6-8pm
Councillor Ian Cochrane, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Sustainability & the Environment said that people were already embracing the need to recycle, "Our recycling rate rose by more than 5% to 55.2% last year making it one of the best in the country, but with ambitious national targets to recycle 70% of all waste by 2025 there's still work to do.
"The new recycling service is already working well in Girvan and the surrounding area and will be rolled out across South Ayrshire in the next seven months, and with your help we'll be able to build our momentum and continue to improve in the years ahead.
"We'll be contacting every household before the new service goes live in your area but in the meantime if you want to find out more please take the time to come along to your local roadshow and put your questions to the team."
