2020 has been the most successful year ever for the South Ayrshire Council Giving Tree!

Kind hearted staff raised a massive £14,200 to buy Christmas presents for children and young people all across South Ayrshire, who otherwise might not receive many, if any, gifts on Christmas Day.

The Giving Tree may have been virtual this year, with staff buying gift cards instead of presents, but generous employees went above and beyond to make Christmas day special. The fantastic amount raised allowed us to purchase 581 gift cards.

Jonny Baillie in our Employability and Skills team raised an amazing £1,400 by reaching out to friends and family. Enterprising Brenda Cowan in Catering Services, raised £500 by making and selling reusable face masks.

It wasn't just employees who have helped to make South Ayrshire a better place to live this Christmas, local groups also made substantial donations. Glenburn Miners Football Club raised £500 and the New Life Christian Fellowship in Prestwick raised £1,500.

Eileen Howat, Chief Executive of South Ayrshire Council said: "I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who got involved in our Giving Tree project. We all know it's been a tough year, and some children and young people have not had an easy time, so it's great to be able to help put smiles back on their faces. Our communities have really pulled together this year, and with their help I am not surprised we have exceeded all expectations."
