Big hearted staff have dug deep to donate presents to children in South Ayrshire whootherwise might not receive many, if any, gifts on Christmas Day. Now in its second year the Council's Giving Tree campaign saw donations soar in 2016, as people came out in numbers to show their support.

Launched in 2015, this year's campaign saw festive Giving Trees put in place at seven Council buildings, with labels attached containing a child's name and age. Staff then took a label from the tree, bought and wrapped a gift for the child before returning it back to the tree with its label attached. All 560 tags have now been snapped up, with the number of donations up by 60%.

The presents have now been gathered with an army of helpers working hard to make sure they all reach families before the Christmas break. Last year's campaign was so successful that the team behind the project were awarded the Chief Executive's prize at the Council's recent Outstanding People Awards.

Eileen Howat, Chief Executive at South Ayrshire Council said the Giving Tree's second year had surpassed expectations, "We've had a fantastic response from staff this year with hundreds of presents donated in just a few days.

"The feedback from families last year was terrific and it's humbling to think that even with their own commitments, our staff are still willing to go the extra mile for people in our communities.

"I'd like to thank everyone who donated their generous gifts this year, all of which will help to add a little sparkle to the lives of hundreds of children on Christmas Day."
