Seven local charities have received a windfall from South Ayrshire Council following a fundraising drive. The Council supports a number of chosen organisations with a cheque for £2,000 presented as the current administration winds down.

Representatives from Ayr Housing Aid, Chernobyl Children, PDSA, Riverside Care and Share, RNLI (Troon and Girvan), SeAscape, and South Ayrshire Women's Aid gathered at County Buildings in Ayr for the official presentation. Each charity received £291, a seventh of the total collected of £2,040.

Helen Moonie, South Ayrshire Provost, said all the money raised would be put to good use, "We've been supporting a broad range of local charities for the last five years, with this latest donation all thanks to the hard work of our staff.

"People across the Council have dug deep in recent months through a variety of fundraising events including raffles, collections, and dress down days, to help maintain the positive momentum which supports our chosen charities.

"I hope that the donations can be put to good use in South Ayrshire and I'd like to thank all our charities for their continued support and dedication in helping make lives better in our communities."
