'FloatFit' proved to be a great success
There is always something happening at the Citadel Leisure Centre in Ayr, however the facility went into overdrive recently as they hosted an open weekend.
Over 1,500 people turned up to take part in free activities catering for all ages and abilities. There were plenty of new things to try, including the Mermaid Experience, Dance Fit, Fit Camp Gold (over 50's fitness class) and Kids Fitness classes (5-16 years) all of which proved extremely popular.
Water based activities such as 'Flip n Fun' were a splash hit with young divers and there were 'Sing n Swim' classes for parents with young children. The weekend also saw the first appearance of an innovative floating exercise mat….FloatFit was a huge success with the participants who performed a workout on water!
Some of the comments captured on the day included:
"Fantastic to see the council trying new activities"
"Lovely to see so many active kids"
"Float Fit was really challenging, but so much fun"
"Loved his Sing n Swim class today – thank you"
Councillor Brian McGinley, Economic Development, Tourism and Leisure Portfolio Holder said: "This was a great event and reflects our drive to get even more people active across South Ayrshire. We want to inspire both young and old to get out there and try new activities which contribute towards their health and wellbeing.
"Listening to what people want is crucial as we look to transform Council services, so it's good to know that as a result of the open day, new classes are being introduced to cater for demand.
"I would like to thank staff for all their hard work and we will continue to work with our communities to promote healthy lifestyle choices."
