Strike action postponed

Councillor John McDowall, Sustainability and Environment Portfolio Holder said:" I am delighted that this strike action has been postponed and common sense has prevailed. I am sure householders will also appreciate this announcement and they can rest assured that the constructive dialogue will continue.

Unite the Union has formally notified South Ayrshire Council that all industrial action related to its waste management service has been postponed. This includes an ongoing overtime ban, and work to rule as well as strike action scheduled for Monday 8 August until Monday 24 October.

This is a positive and welcome step and allows further discussions between Unite and the Council to take place.

"In the meantime, the double shift arrangements will continue and the Council's position that our waste collection service should make the necessary savings, protect jobs and cause householders minimal disruption remains unchanged.

"I know many residents have been affected by the strikes and I would like to thank them for their cooperation and patience.

"I am pleased that our waste management staff can now continue to deliver a quality service to residents and businesses."
