Council to Consult with Communities on Naming of New Schools

We know that schools are at the very heart of our communities.

Our investment in a number of new schools and early years centres is helping to close the gap for young people and communities across South Ayrshire.

Current projects include a shared educational campus in Prestwick with a standalone early years centre and a fantastic community campus in Maybole, which will incorporate a new swimming pool and spaces that the community can access during the school day.

Today, education provision is more than just a school, and these state of the art modern facilities will benefit both young people and local residents.

Choosing the right name for a school is extremely important, as it makes a clear statement about its identity and the surrounding area. To make sure that our schools reflect the communities they serve, we will now work with young people, families and communities to name our new campuses.

Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Peter Henderson said:  "Children and young people spend much of their childhood in education and they carry their school's name with them for the rest of their lives.

"It's important that everyone has the opportunity to provide suggestions for the names of our new schools, and we will consult locally with key individuals and groups to ensure this is the case."
