People in Ayr and the surrounding villages are being encouraged to show their support for local community groups by voting on their favourites. The Ayr North decision day will be held at Ayrshire College's Ayr Campus between 11:00am and 3:00pm on Saturday 4 March.

A fund of up to £26,500 is available at the event, for community groups in the Ayr North and villages area. 34 community groups will be pitching to an audience of local people about their proposal and how it will benefit the community. After all the pitches have been heard, the audience will vote to decide which groups should receive funding. Groups can be funded up to £1,500 for use in local projects.

The event is part of a new way to encourage people to get actively involved in local decision making known as 'Participatory Budgeting'. South Ayrshire Council, South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership, and their community partners are inviting people from Ayr North Harbour, Wallacetown & Newton South, Dalmilling & Craigie, Lochside, Braehead & Whitletts, Annbank, Mossblown & Tarbolton. Anyone over the age of 12 is able to take part in the electronic vote.

Councillor Bill McIntosh, Leader of South Ayrshire Council said the event was a great opportunity for people to get actively involved in their local community, "Hundreds of people have been turning out for the decision days and I'm sure that Ayr North will be no different.

"Participatory budget events invite the community to come along and hear directly from local groups, with everyone that registers able to cast their vote and have a say.

"We're committed to giving people more opportunities to get involved in local decision making and I'm hoping to see a strong turnout for a session that will provide much needed funds to help makes lives better across South Ayrshire."

The money was made available from South Ayrshire Council, Scottish Government, the South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership, and the Big Lottery Fund.

The 'Decision Day' event takes place at Ayrshire College's Ayr Campus, 4 Content Ave, Ayr, KA8 0ET on Saturday 4 March between 11:00am and 3:00pm. Anyone wishing to vote must register between 10:00am and 11:00am.
