Asymptomatic COVID-19 test facility coming to Maybole

A Mobile Test Site will be operating in Maybole this weekend to help tackle the 'silent spread' of COVID-19.

The test site is located at Carrick Academy, Kirkoswald Road, Maybole. This will allow a targeted programme of testing to be carried out on those who are not displaying symptoms of the virus.

The facility will operate by appointment only and will be open as follows:

  • Saturday 13 February – 10.00am – 6.00pm
  • Sunday 14 February – 10.00am – 6.00pm

Tests are free, quick and easy, and you can expect results back within 24-48 hours. Traffic management will be in place at and around the site.

You can book an appointment online from 6.00pm on Friday 12 February at https://www.nhsinform.scot/test-and-protect (please select 'No, none of these symptoms' when prompted), or by calling NHS Inform on 0800 028 2816 if you don't have internet access. Morning appointments will be open for bookings the evening before, and further slots will be released on the day itself for afternoon appointments that same day. If you can't get an appointment to suit straight away, please keep trying as new appointments will appear regularly.

Asymptomatic testing is crucial to slowing the spread of coronavirus. This Mobile Test Site will make it possible to identify more people who are infected with COVID-19, allowing them to isolate quickly and limit the spread to others.

Councillor Peter Henderson, Leader of South Ayrshire Council said: "I'm pleased to hear that the Mobile COVID-19 Testing Unit will make a return to the Carrick Academy site next week. Many people can be unaware that they have coronavirus as they exhibit no symptoms, that's why these asymptomatic test sites play a key role in helping to stop the silent spread of the virus."

If you are displaying symptoms of COVID-19, you should book a test at www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or call 0300 303 2173 if you don't have internet access.
