As outlined in the Programme for Government, the Scottish Government has committed to investing over £500 million in active travel across the next five years. More permanent projects, including smaller schemes, will be progressed through the Sustrans Places for Everyone programme – in line with the vision of a more sustainable transport system as outlined in the National Transport Strategy.

A number of businesses across South Ayrshire are celebrating success after being crowned High Street Heroes as part of the 'Scotland Loves Local' campaign, which is coordinated by Scotland's Towns Partnership.

The £50 million Maybole Community Campus has just been granted planning approval. This important milestone now allows the Council to progress towards starting the formal construction of the new campus. Initial works are planned for spring next year with the new campus set to open in 2023.

The UK Government plan to cut the benefit level for millions of claimants from April 2021 by ending the time limited increase to the basic rate of Universal Credit (and the tax credit equivalent). This £20 weekly boost reflected the reality that the existing level of benefits were not enough to protect the increasing number of households who came to rely on them as the COVID-19 pandemic took its grasp. The increase in benefits has had a positive effect on the lives of thousands of residents who are better able to pay for essentials such as food, clothing and utility bills.
