On the 11 November 1918, Allied forces and Germany signed the Armistice, an agreement to end fighting and begin peace negotiations, marking the end of the First World War. As a result of this significant moment in history, the annual tradition of Remembrance Day was first observed in 1919 across the British Commonwealth, then known as Armistice Day.
