The ambitious project to create a new home for Ayr Grammar Primary School at the site of one of the town's most recognisable landmarks is now well underway. A large section of the old Ayr Academy's obsolete concrete extension has now been demolished ahead of wider refurbishment works that will bring the school back to life.
Thousands of people are about to start using South Ayrshire's new recycling service as part of the third stage of a Council campaign. 9,500 households Ayr, Prestwick, Troon, and a number of rural properties are being encouraged to help increase the quality of the recycling collected while also increasing the amount of materials recycled.
A 14 year old from Troon and an eight year old from Crosshill are celebrating after winning a competition to bring added sparkle to South Ayrshire this Christmas. The designs will now take their place among the central attractions in Ayr town centre as part of an annual tie-in with local schools and sponsor, Owen Kerr Signs.

Councillors in South Ayrshire will be asked next week to give the green light to a consultation with tenants on the future of the three high-rise blocks of flats at Riverside Place in Ayr.
People in South Ayrshire are being urged to report all cases of animals and livestock abuse following a recent case heard at Ayr Sheriff Court. Ballantrae farmer Kevin MacIntyre (37) was fined £7,000 and ordered to complete 80 hours community service on Monday, 19 November after pleading guilty to the charges of causing unnecessary suffering to his sheep and failure to dispose of carcasses properly.

Thousands of people turned out to celebrate the start of the festive season in Ayr at the weekend (Sunday 18 Nov) with the official countdown to Christmas now underway. The Little Stars Light Up Ayr event ended with a local fundraiser for Ayrshire Hospice helping to flood High Street with seasonal cheer.

A delegation from Liaocheng City in the country's eastern Shandong Province met with business leaders to discuss potential investment opportunities, while a separate agreement was signed by the Council to explore the potential for new cultural connections.
Plans to create a new community in South Ayrshire are now well underway as work to transform a prominent gap site in Ayr gathers pace. The South Ayrshire Council project will see 26 properties built on the site of the former Whitletts Primary.

Book lovers from across South Ayrshire are being invited to celebrate a trio of events being held as part of a national festival. Book Week Scotland 2018 will be celebrating murder mystery, genealogy and self-publishing at venues in Ayr and Girvan.

It was an evening of celebration at the South Ayrshire Sports Awards recently. The annual event takes place to recognise sporting achievement and reward the often unsung heroes who give up so much of their time for the love of sport.
People in South Carrick are being given extra time to have their say about plans to create a new all-weather pitch in Girvan. More than 200 people attended a recent consultation event on the issue but with high levels of interest in the project, the deadline for comments is being extended to Friday, 16 November.

Proposals to increase the availability of affordable homes in Girvan have been approved by South Ayrshire Council. The plans would see 12 newly-completed flats bought by the Council and made available for rent, with half the properties providing easy access for people with mobility issues.
