International Women's Day supported by South Ayrshire Council

 08 March 2018  |

South Ayrshire Council is lending its support to International Women's Day (IWD) today (Thursday, 8 March), as the global campaign steps up a gear to promote equal rights for all.

The Council is helping to raise awareness about the IWD campaign theme of #pressforprogress online through Twitter, as part of its wider work to ensure equality in the workplace and in the community.

A number of short video clips are available to view online from senior Councillors on their inspirational women, with the people covered including: Rosa Parks, Margo MacDonald, Mary Barbour, Elish Angioloni, and Mother Teresa.

The purpose of this is to shine a light on the number of people working in different areas and walks of life, and to make others think about championing equality in their own lives by recognising the contribution of women in our society.

As part of the Council's support for IWD, Councillor Laura Brennan-Whitefield, as Chair of the Equalities Forum, hosted an informal get-together with the Equalities Forum, representatives from WASPI and the Ayrshire Women's Hub at County Buildings.
