Domestic Repairs Service for South Ayrshire home owners

From 6th January 2020 until 6th April 2020 South Ayrshire Council will be extending our electrical and plumbing property maintenance services to all home owners across South Ayrshire.

This is in response to the positive returns we received from a survey of owner occupiers indicating an interest in this service.

We recognise there may be an interest from private rental repairs, however we can only take authorisation for work from the property owner.

Areas covered by the Domestic Repairs Service

All private home owners in South Ayrshire can use the service. There are no geographical restrictions. We are unable to complete work outside the South Ayrshire Local Authority catchment area.

Types of work and jobs covered

Plumbing and electrical repairs. For example, blocked sink or toilet, burst pipes, power outages, lighting problems and electrical faults, minor electrical and plumbing repairs.

Work will be carried out by a fully qualified member of the South Ayrshire Council Property Maintenance team. All our staff undergo employment and vetting checks, are fully insured and receive ongoing training and development.

Paying for the service

Customers will be required to sign a paper form once the job is complete to an agreed satisfactory standard. Customers will then be sent an invoice payable within 30 days. We do not accept payment in advance or cash or card payments at point of delivery. Due to conditions of employment, our staff are unable to accept tips or gifts. Where a customer has an outstanding bill, we reserve the right not to undertake further work.

Our charges

Work charges will be made at a flat rate of £45 per hour plus material costs. There will be a minimum charge of one hour. Each additional hour or part of an hour will be charged at £45. E.g. a call out of 1 hour and 10 minutes will incur a charge of £90. Our charges are non-negotiable.

Emergency Repairs

By providing information on the nature of the job to our Call Handlers, they will assess whether they consider it to be an emergency repair. Emergencies will be attended within 4 hours of the call being logged. Emergency repairs are charged at the same rate as standard repairs.
