The DC3 Squadron are proud to be going to France to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D Day landings. In the planning for this journey over the Atlantic we looked back at the routes flown by the original crews going to war in Europe. From the USA to Canada, Greenland, Iceland and into Europe landing at Prestwick Airport in Scotland. Tens of thousands of aircaft flew this route and not all came home. In 1944 over 300 aircraft a day were being flown through Prestwick Airport into Europe and back home from World War 2.
This may be the final time that such a large number of C-47s and DC-3s will gather together to mark D-Day and the beginning of the end of World War 2. Prestwick airport have been very keen to help us make a success of this mission and have very kindly arranged that the public can come to see the wonderful aircraft on the ground at this historic airport. On Saturday 25th May the team which put together the Scottish International Airshow have pulled together a display site. Not only can the public come and see the aeroplanes and meet the crews but they can also help raise funds to cover fuel for this incredible journey for WW2 vintage aircraft.
