Lifesaving Club (Citadel)

The Citadel Lifesaving Club has been in existence for over 30 years and teaches and trains swimmers aged 13 years upwards.

Focusing on teaching water safety & Drowning Prevention through education, the Club lifesaving classes consist of – Rookies Lifeguards, Survive and Safe and CPR Life-Support classes.

Rookie Lifeguard Courses. Suitable for 8-12 year olds, this is a fun way to learn how to save lives in and around water.

The Survive and Safe Course has three levels; Bronze, Silver, Gold, within theirs levels are four awards strands,


  • Medallion Lifesaving Awards – Completed in the Swimming pool.
  • Beach Lifesaving Awards – Completed in the sea.
  • Stillwater Lifesaving – Completed at inland open water.
  • Sports Lifesaving – Completed in the Swimming pool.


There is no time frame to complete the levels you work at your own pace and when you are ready to be assessed for the level you are at it would be arranged by the club.

The Club Offers Medallion & Sports at this time.
We are also looking to become a Duke of Edinburgh registered Centre delivering under the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.

The Club works in partnership with South Ayrshire Council so we keep can make it affordable to learn lifesaving Skills that will last a lifetime.

Rookie Lifeguard 10 week block: £25.00
(Rookies must be able to swim 6lenghs of the Citadel Pool)

Survive and Save ongoing lessons 10 month program: £35.00
(This includes the Survive and save Candidate Manual)

The Lifesaving Club also runs Rookie Lifeguard Courses at the Citadel. Suitable for 8-12 year olds, this is a fun way to learn how to save lives in and around water.

The instructors with the Club are all volunteers.
If you would like to help with running the Club training can be provided and PVG check conducted free of charge.
