Parent(s) of any new born child who require to register their baby should contact Ayr registration office on: 01292 617617 to provide preliminary details prior to an appointment being made to attend.

Marriages and Civil Partnerships
As from Friday 8th January 2021, the maximum number of attendees at a marriage or civil partnership ceremony is 5 (or 6 if an interpreter is required). This figure represents the minimum number of participants for a legal ceremony in Scotland: The couple; two witnesses; the registrar or celebrant; and any interpreter. These restrictions extend to all marriage ceremonies occurring indoors, outdoors or in private dwellings in a level 4 area.

Please note: Couples must give the minimum 29 days notice period from when the notices are received and processed by the registration office.
Test and Protect
Test and Protect was launched across Scotland and aims to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community.
We therefore need to gather contact information from customers and visitors at our premises which may be passed to the NHS Test and Protect Service, in the event that an incidence of COVID-19 is subsequently identified for a visitor who attended the premises. The information that you provide will be held securely, and then destroyed after 21 days. The information will only be used if requested by NHS Scotland or statutory partners.
You will be asked to complete and return a Contact Details Form listing the contact details for those attending your ceremony.

Extension of Validity of Marriage Notice Forms
If a marriage or civil partnership has to be postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, permission has been given for the notice period to be extended without new notices being submitted, providing the marriage is to take place before 31 December 2020. All fees paid will be transferred to the new date.
Where notices have already been submitted, but the marriage cannot be re-arranged by 31 December 2020, new Marriage Notice Forms must be submitted within three calendar months of the re-scheduled date. Providing a refund has not been requested, all fees paid will be transferred to the new date and no additional fee will be payable.
Should you require to cancel a marriage or civil partnership ceremony, please contact the registration office as soon as possible on 01292 617617 to advise of the cancellation and to arrange a refund.

Tell Us Once
Tell Us Once is a free service offered by HM Government.
When someone has died, there are lots of things that need to be done, at a time when you probably least feel like doing them.
Tell Us Once is voluntary to use and very helpful. It enables you to report a death only once, telling central and local government services securely and confidentially without you having to inform them individually.
Many services can be notified and these include:
• The local council - to update services such as Council Housing, Housing Benefit, Council Tax, and remove the person from the Electoral Register
• HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) - to deal with personal tax and to update regarding Child Benefit and Tax Credits claims (contact HMRC separately for business taxes, like VAT)
• Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) - to update benefits information for example: State Pension, Universal Credit
• Passport Office - to cancel a British passport
• Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) - to cancel a driving licence and to remove registered keeper details, possibly for up to five vehicles
• Public Sector or Armed Forces Pension Schemes - to update pension records
How to use the service
After you have registered the death the Registrar will provide you with a unique Tell Us Once reference number, which will enable you to access the service online via GOV.UK at: https://www.gov.uk/after-a-death or via our telephony service 0800 085 7308.
It will help you to have all the relevant information listed below about the person before using Tell Us Once:
• date of birth
• address of the deceased
• National Insurance number
• driving licence number
• vehicle registration number
• passport number
You will also need:
• details of any benefits or entitlements they were receiving, for example State Pension, Universal Credit
• details of any local council services they were receiving, for example Adult Social Services, Blue Badge
• the name and address of their next of kin
• the name and address of any surviving spouse or civil partner
• the name, address and contact details of the person or company dealing with their estate (property, belongings and money), known as their 'executor' or 'administrator'
• details of any public sector or armed forces pension schemes they were getting or paying into
- Permission is required from the next of kin, the executor, the administrator and anyone who was claiming benefits or entitlements jointly with the person who died, before you give their details.
-There is no need to follow-up contact after you have used Tell Us Once unless you don't receive a confirmation from the relevant department after a reasonable period of time, in most cases a calendar month.
- Once the various agencies informed by Tell Us Once have received notification of the death, they will make any further contact if necessary with the bereaved family.
- Tell Us Once is not a claim to benefit, therefore please contact GOV.UK or the relevant department for advice.
- Tell Us Once does not notify any commercial organisations of the death and cannot arrange for redirection of post.

Changes to Bereavement Services
We understand that losing a loved one is an extremely difficult time, and our bereavement services always strive to provide a compassionate and caring service.
We appreciate the seriousness of the current public health situation regarding coronavirus (COVID-19), and the part we must play to help reduce the spread of the virus. While we will still offer the same care and compassion, we are following guidance from the Government and national bereavement associations*, resulting in the following temporary changes to our services.
What we're doing:
- Masonhill crematorium office is now open to the general public. Please wear a mask when entering the building;
- We have temporarily removed all hymn books from Masonhill Chapel, and have asked Funeral Directors to make sure that they have orders of service that suit the wishes of families;
- The Book of Remembrance room is now open to the public. Only one family/bubble is permitted to enter the room at each time, and masks must be worn at all times. Please remember to adhere to social distancing guidance;
- We are now able to hold the monthly service of remembrance for babies under 24 weeks on the 29 August at 10.30am (please note that these services are held on the last Saturday of each month);
- We can now take bookings for the internment of cremated ashes;
- We can now process new requests or permits for memorial foundations.
What we're asking you to do:
- Please limit the number of people who attend funerals to 20 family members/mourners. If you are attending Masonhill Crematorium Chapel, please wear a facemask in line with Scottish Government guidance (this is not necessary for a burial service);
- Please follow Government guidance on social distancing throughout burials and cremations, and keep 2 metres apart from others. This unfortunately means that you will not be able to take a cord. Our staff will carry the coffin with the funeral directors and lower the coffin during the committal;
- Please stand 2 metres away from the grave while the coffin is being lowered. If you wish, you can step forward when our staff have stepped back from the grave, and are 2 metres away from congregation;
- Please do not shake hands or have any physical contact with anyone who attends a funeral service (this follows guidance from The Church of Scotland and The Roman Catholic Church);
- Should a family member wish to collect ashes, rather than have the funeral director collect them, we can accomodate this.
In addition to the above:
- No singing, chanting or playing of wind instruments is permitted at the moment, including outdoors.
Please be aware that Masonhill Crematorium does not currently have Wi-Fi or any streaming service within the Chapel. We will work with families and funeral directors to make alternative arrangements in cases where families wish to record or stream the service.
These changes are for the health and safety of those attending a funeral, the funeral directors and our employees. We understand how difficult these changes will be, and we appreciate your support and understanding. Changes are happening very quickly just now, so please visit this page regularly for updates.
Funeral Support Payment
Funeral Support Payment helps pay for funeral costs if you live in Scotland and are eligible. It will not usually cover the full cost of the funeral but should help pay some costs. It can be paid either to you or your funeral director. Applications must be received within 6 months of the funeral. However, you can apply late if the reason for the delay is due to COVID-19.
