Leaving Home
Think about it!
Leaving home is a normal thing to do at some stage in your life but it doesn't mean
that it's an easy option. If you can, take your time and think about it. Finding
a place to live can be very difficult, and homelessness is not an attractive option.
Get proper advice and information.
You will save yourself a lot of hassle if you plan it and get organised before you
decide to leave home.
Is it the right time?
Why are you thinking about leaving home? Are there problems at home? It may help
if you can sit down with a member of your family and talk it through. Would some
sort of compromise be possible? The
Throughcare Support Team can help. A mediation worker can mediate between
you and your family to help you reach a compromise you are all happy with to enable
you to remain at home or to keep links with your family if you do leave. If for
any reason it is not possible for you to remain at home the Throughcare Team can
support you through the homeless system.
Weigh up the options!

Make a list of the good points and the bad points.
FOR
More independence; More freedom;

You are responsible for everything; You have to
budget your money; Loneliness and isolation; Unfamiliar area and people;
No help with problems; No one around to support you.
If you have thought it all through and if having your own place would be the answer,
