Welfare Rights
Introduction
Welfare Rights is a free service that provides information, advice and assistance
to South Ayrshire residents primarily on a range of Social Security benefits.
A drop in service is available at
Burns House, Burns Statue Square, Ayr during the following hours:
- 11.30 to 12.00 - Mon to Fri
- 3.30 to 4.30 - Mon to Thurs
- 3.30 to 4.00 - Fri
You can also call the Enquiry and Information Team on 01292 268119 or call into your local Social
Work Office (listed below) where the Duty Worker can refer you on.
The Enquiry and Information team will help you with any
- Benefit checks
- Assistance with benefit claim forms
- Advice on Social Work Services
- General Money Advice
- Referral to Specialist Teams such as Occupational Therapy Services or Community
Care
If your claim to benefit has been unsuccessful or you need more specialised assistance
you will be referred on to see a Welfare Rights Officer.
Welfare Rights Officers
They will help with
- Advice on complex benefit issues
- Representation at appeals or reviews
- Training/briefing on Social Security Benefits
- Campaigns to encourage benefits take-up
- Information on a broad range of issues including; employment rights, industrial
injuries, criminal injuries compensation, housing and social services.
We may be able to offer you an appointment at your home if you are housebound or
at a convenient Social Work Office.
