- The Special Uplift Service is essentially for the collection
of bulky waste items or garden waste that cannot fit into a
domestic wheeled bin.
- To arrange a special uplift of household waste the householder
requires to telephone 08457 697520.
- Householders are entitled to five free collections per annum.
Thereafter a charge will be levied at the rate of £25, £35
or £45 plus VAT, depending on the size of the load (small,
medium or large). The financial year 1st April - 31st March
is used for counting the number of free collections each householder
has requested.
- The service requires householders to list the items to be
uplifted. This is to prevent any items being uplifted which
were not intended for disposal and therefore any subsequent
third party claims against the Council. The system of itemised
loads also allows the service to be effectively monitored and
accurate information can be obtained on waste types, volumes
etc. Also for load sizing for the vehicle.
- Items for uplift should be grouped together and placed as
close as possible to the front curtilage of the property the
night before the day of collection.
- If a householder arranges a special collection and then wishes
to add items to the list at a later date they may do so prior
to 3.00 p.m. two working days before their scheduled collection
day. (i.e. Collection day Wednesday, last amendment 3 p.m.
Monday).
- If any householder by reasons of infirmity or age has difficulty
placing out items to the front curtilage of their property
or there are any other difficult access problems assistance
may be provided as required.
- Any hazardous or special wastes may have to be collected by a special waste contractor. Such waste would include asbestos, flammable wastes, acids and alkalis, weedkillers, poisons, etc. Please telephone our Waste Management section, 01292 611755, extension 30, or the Recycling Helpline, 0845 601 2020, for further information on disposing and presentation of these wastes
- The Council will uplift asbestos cement (eg corrugated asbestos cement roofing sheets) Individual sheets must be double wrapped and taped in polythene by the householder prior to collection.
- Items such as fridges, washing machines scrap metal etc
are passed on for recycling and therefore will be collected
by a different type of vehicle from the vehicle used for general
waste items.
- The Council currently provides four permanent Community Recycling Centres within the district where householders may dispose or recycle additional wastes free of charge. These Recycling Centres are located as follows:
- Port Ranald Drive, Troon
- Glenburn Road, Prestwick
- Seaton Street, Maybole
- Bridge Street, Girvan
The site attendant has discretion to limit the volumes of waste being deposited. The centres may close early if demand exceeds capacity.
The sites are open from 10.00 am to 3.45pm on Saturdays and Sundays and Bank Holidays.
The Weekday opening hours are:-
April to August 10am to 7.45pm
September; 10am to 6.45pm
October 10am to 4.45pm
November to January 10am to 3.45pm
February 10am to 4.45pm
March; 10am to 5.45pm
The attendant requires 15 minutes at the end of the day to tidy site. The sites may
close early if demand exceeds capacity.
- A list of some common items is provided overleaf which details how these materials should be prepared prior to uplifting. When making a request for a special collection the householder will be advised of these guidelines.
Note: if a contractor is employed for house or garden works,
any waste generated e.g. windows, doors, baths, branches etc
should be removed by the contractor. It is in the householder's
interest to ensure this is included in any estimates given since
a charge will be levied if the Council removes this waste.
- The Council has been set a number of targets to reduce and
recycle municipal waste. We would request therefore that residents
look at how they could re-use or recycle items being considered
for special uplift.
- If you wish to have furniture recycled, the main outlets at present are the charity shops, second hand furniture shops, and auction houses. For further information please telephone our Waste Aware Officers on 01292 611755.
- Home
composting is one of the most effective ways of recycling
and reducing garden waste. Householders may currently purchase
a compost
bin at a special price of £5.00 including delivery
(this offer is subject to availability).
