The householders of South Ayrshire have ensured that South Ayrshire Council will meet the first recycling target set for it by the Scottish Government, to recycle 25% of collected waste by the end of March 2006.
This means that 17,500 tonnes of household waste will have been recycled by then.
The Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Andy Hill said:“Householders in South Ayrshire very quickly got into the habit of separating their household waste for recycling, and I would like to thank you for your co-operation.
“The next recycling target set by the Scottish Government is a challenging 30%, that is the equivalent of 21,000 tonnes of household waste, which must be reached by 2008.The Council cannot do this alone and it needs residents in South Ayrshire to increase the amount that they recycle, and to ensure that all waste is properly separated.
“Please remember to regularly recycle all your household paper, card, plastic bottles, food and drink cans, glass and garden waste to make sure that there is a continuous flow of materials for recycling. By doing this together we will make a difference.” |
