Real nappies – Aren’t they just Terry Squares & Pins?

Not any more – real nappies have changed. Real nappies come in a variety of styles, shapes and colours, which are fun, funky and cool to wear!

Nappy pins are a thing of the past. Today’s nappies are quickly and simply fastened by either poppers, velcro or plastic grips – much safer for you and your baby. Real nappies consist of three main parts – the nappy itself, which is the absorbent element, a liner which allows wetness to pass through, and catches any solids, and a waterproof cover, or wrap.

There are three basic nappy types to choose from, they are:

Shaped nappies: these are very similar in style to a disposable nappy and need a separate waterproof wrap or pants worn on top of the nappy. These nappies can be either a one size style which can be used from birth right through to potty training, or different sizes which will you will need to change as your baby grows.

All-in-One: again these are designed to be very similar to a disposable nappy, with integral waterproof outers and with velcro fastenings. They are easy to fit but can take a longer time to dry. You will need to buy larger sizes as your baby grows.

Flat nappies: these are a two piece nappy, using a flat cotton square which is folded to fit inside a waterproof wrap. They are the most economical option and dry quickly.
