South Ayrshire Council Customer Services |
The Troon district will be the first to benefit from this service, with each householder being provided with a 53 litre 100% recycled plastic box in which the bottles and jars can be neatly stored until time of uplift. Collection of the glass will be on a fortnightly basis, the exception being permit holders where boxes will be serviced on a monthly basis. Currently we collect approx. 800 tonnes of glass per annum in South Ayrshire. With the implementation of this service we aim to increase this to 3,500 tonnes per annum. Glass will be separated into the three main colours, clear, green and amber, at kerbside and then taken to a processing plant where it will be RECYCLED into new bottles and jars. By recycling glass we reduce the creation of pollution, reduce the use of finite resources, reduce the energy use, reduce the damage to habitats thereby conserving flora and fauna.
