Waste and Recycling
Special Uplift Guide
To arrange a Special Uplift please telephone our Waste and Recycling section on:
0300 123 0900
The Special Uplift Service is essentially for the collection of bulky waste items
or garden waste that cannot fit into a domestic wheeled bin.
- A fixed charge will be levied at the rate £20 per standard
(max 30 point) special uplift subject to annual review, Examples of non-standard
special uplifts are listed below, the list is not exhaustive. The cost of a
non-standard special uplift will require to be estimated upon request.
- From 1st May 2012 you will no longer be able to pay for special uplifts by debtors
account, all uplifts will require to be paid in full up front before the uplift date.
- Methods of payment:
- Switch/Credit Card (by telephoning 0300 123 0900)
- Cheque or Postal Order
- Cash at designated payment points
- Concessionary arrangements have been made for old age pensioners and low income
groups in South Ayrshire. This scheme offers a 25% reduction which is valid for
2 years from date of issue.
- The service requires householders to list the items to be uplifted. This is to prevent
any items being uplifted which were not intended for disposal and therefore any
subsequent third party claims against the Council. The system of itemised loads
also allows the service to be effectively monitored.
- Items for uplift should be grouped together and placed as close as possible to the
front curtilage of the property the night before the day of collection. Where uplifts
are not collected due to items not being properly presented as per guidelines or
collection point an additional re-booking fee of £5 will be charged.
- When making a request for a special collection the householder will be advised of
these guidelines. Note: if a contractor is employed for house or garden works, any
waste generated from the works should be removed by the contractor.
- If a householder arranges a special collection and then wishes to add items to the
list at a later date they may do so by telephoning 0300 123 0900 by noon two working
days before their scheduled collection day. (i.e. Collection day Wednesday, last
amendment noon Monday).
- If any householder by reasons of infirmity or age has difficulty placing out items
to the front curtilage of their property or there are any other difficult access
problems assistance may be available upon request.
- Any hazardous or special wastes may have to be collected by a special waste contractor.
Such waste would include asbestos, flammable wastes, acids and alkalis, weedkillers,
poisons, etc. Please telephone our customer services team number on 0300 123 0900.
- The Council will uplift asbestos cement (eg corrugated asbestos cement roofing sheets)
Individual sheets must be double wrapped and taped in polythene
by the householder prior to collection.
- Items such as fridges, washing machines scrap metal etc are passed on for recycling
and therefore will be collected by a different type of vehicle.
- The Council has been set a number of targets to reduce and recycle municipal waste.
We would request therefore that residents look at how they could re-use or recycle
items being considered for special uplift.
- If you wish to have furniture recycled, the main outlets at present are the charity
shops, second hand furniture shops, and auction houses. For further information
please telephone our customer services team on 0300 123 0900.
- Home composting
is one of the most effective ways of recycling and reducing garden waste.
- The Council currently provides four permanent Recycling Centres within the district where householders
may dispose or recycle additional wastes free of charge.
