Waste and Recycling
Black Box
What to put in your BLACK box
Please rinse and remove the lids from your bottles and jars before putting directly
into your black box.
Please DO NOT put the following materials in your black box:
- Plastic Bags
- Broken glass
- Drinking glasses
- Glass dishes
- Mirrors
- Pyrex
For any enquiries or assistance about the Council's kerbside recycling services

By recycling glass we reduce the creation of pollution, reduce the use of finite
resources, reduce the energy use, reduce the damage to habitats thereby conserving
flora and fauna.
Those who can Participate:
- All householders within towns and villages – boxes must be presented in the
same location as they present their wheeled bin.
- Householders and permit holders who are unable to place their black box at the kerbside
will receive assistance where necessary.
- Normally boxes should be placed out the night before collection day, however in
some town centre areas boxes may require to be placed out on the day of collection.
All boxes should be out by 7.00am on the day of collection however.
Guidelines for Participation
- Any colour of glass is accepted.
- Only glass bottles and glass food containers will be collected.
- No Pyrex, broken glass, mirrors, drinking glasses etc will be accepted.
- All bottles and jars should be rinsed prior to being put out for collection.
- Please remove all tops, corks and lids. These should be put in your green bin.
Guidelines for Replacement or Additional Boxes
All households will be given a box free of charge.
- If a box is damaged by our own staff we shall arrange for a replacement free of
charge to the householder.
- If a box is lost, stolen or damaged or you require an additional box due to the
large quantities of glass generated; a box can be purchased from South Ayrshire
Council at a cost of £5.00
