Waste and Recycling

Black Box

Recycling of Household Glass

What to put in your BLACK box

  • Glass bottles and jars

Please rinse and remove the lids from your bottles and jars before putting directly into your black box.

Please DO NOT put the following materials in your black box:

  • Plastic Bags
  • Broken glass
  • Drinking glasses
  • Glass dishes
  • Mirrors
  • Pyrex

For any enquiries or assistance about the Council's kerbside recycling services please call the Recycling Helpline telephone number: 0300 123 0900.

By recycling glass we reduce the creation of pollution, reduce the use of finite resources, reduce the energy use, reduce the damage to habitats thereby conserving flora and fauna.

Those who can Participate:

  • All householders within towns and villages – boxes must be presented in the same location as they present their wheeled bin.
  • Householders and permit holders who are unable to place their black box at the kerbside will receive assistance where necessary.
  • Normally boxes should be placed out the night before collection day, however in some town centre areas boxes may require to be placed out on the day of collection. All boxes should be out by 7.00am on the day of collection however.
