Street Litter Control Notices
What are they?
Street litter control notices have been introduced by South Ayrshire Council to
ensure that, as a trader, you uphold your civic responsibility to keep the area
in front of your shop clear for litter and refuse.
Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, South Ayrshire Council has the authority
to make some owners or occupiers of land/property responsible for clearing litter
or refuse from the area specified on a notice.
Street Litter Control Notices will only be served where there is a persistent problem
with litter and where other arrangements cannot be made. Notice requirements can
include, for example, the removal of all litter and refuse within a stated distance
from the premises at specified intervals.
Anyone not complying with a street litter control notice can be fined up to £2,500
each time they fail to comply with the terms of a notice.
It is in your interests to control the litter coming from your premises.
