Do You Measure Up? - Licensed Premises Staff Training on Trading
Standards Legislation

During a recent project South Ayrshire Council Trading
Standards Service visited forty pubs, clubs and hotels checking
for compliance with the requirements of Trading Standards
legislation. This resulted in notifications being issued
to some of the premises concerned:
- 14 for short measure spirits
- 14 for pricing infringements
- 31 for not measuring in the purchaser's presence
Lack of staff training appeared to be the root cause of
these disappointing findings. We have, however, assembled
a training pack to remedy this problem.

Training
The training consists of:
- Video presentation
- Training manual; and
- Practical session
It lasts no longer than 2 hours and covers measuring, false
descriptions, prices and the sale of age restricted goods
to young people.

| There
are obvious benefits for the public, the authorities, licensees
and employees. The standard of service will be higher, licensees
can avoid expensive and damaging court proceedings and staff
will receive a certificate of attainment on successful completion
of the training.
