Prestwick Town

Continuing north from Ayr brings you to the town of Prestwick, Scotland's oldest Baronial Burgh dating back over a thousand years. The Scottish King, Robert the Bruce, is said to have drunk the water here, and Bruce's Well can still be seen today.

Prestwick offers a full range of indoor and outdoor leisure facilities including an indoor swimming pool and one of the largest indoor bowling stadiums in Europe. Children are well catered for at Kidz Play Centre, while tennis courts and windsurfing are some of the main outdoor facilities.

Golf features strongly in the town as it does throughout the area. The first ever British Open Golf Championship was held at Old Prestwick Golf Course in 1860, and continued to be held there for 12 years. There are also two other courses available for visitors to test their skills.

The Main Street of Prestwick provides an excellent choice of restaurants, bars and bistros, and a variety of independent shops for visitors to browse through.

Glasgow Prestwick International Airport is situated at the north end of the town, offering low cost connections from various locations including London, Dublin, Brussels, Paris, Oslo, Frankfurt and Stockholm.
