The town of Maybole, the Capital of Carrick, is situated 12 miles north of Girvan. Maybole Castle stands high above the A77 at the junction of six streets and dates from the 16th or 17th century. The Castle is a powerful symbol of the Kennedys who were the ruling family in days gone by.
The Kennedys of Dunure established a Collegiate Church which is situated in the old graveyard in Abbot Street.
Maybole is also famous for being the town where Robert Burns' parents first met.
