Web Statistics - Definitions
Unique Visitor:
A unique visitor is a unique IP address that has made at least
1 hit on 1 page of the web site during the current period shown
by
the
report. If this visitor makes several visits during this period,
it is counted only once. The period shown by the summary reports
is a month.
Visits:
Number of visits made by all visitors.
Think "session" here, say a unique IP accesses a page,
and then requests three others without an hour between any of
the requests, all of the "pages" are included in the
visit, therefore you should expect multiple pages per visit and
multiple visits per unique visitor (assuming that some of the
unique IPs are logged with more than an hour between requests).
Pages:
The number of "pages" logged. Pages are reserved for
HTML files, not images or other files requested as a result
of loading a "Page". A page view is one view
of one webpage on the website.
Hits:
Any files successfully requested from a visitor's
browser (including HTML pages, image files and documents downloaded).
Hits from
search indexing tools are filtered out.
Bandwidth:
Total number of bytes downloaded.
HTML Files:
Hypertext Markup Language. HTML files are web pages.
IP Address:
Internet Protocol. A unique computer address.
