Community Safety |
The Group is chaired by Group Manager David Whyte, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue and has Eric Ewart, South Ayrshire Council Senior Community Safety Officer as Support Officer to the group.
The following outcome targets were included in the South Ayrshire Community Safety 3 Year Strategy 2005 – 2008 and form the aims of the Accidents Sub-Group
Membership of the group comprises representatives from:
In parallel with the other two multi-agency sub-groups, the Accidents group has adopted a ‘problem solving’ approach. Working with a wide range of partners, the first stage has been to gather evidence to define what the ‘hot spot’ or ‘problem’ is.
The group has taken over responsibility for “Accident” issues from the previous sub-groups and intend to continue supporting a range of projects (including Class Diamonds, Emergency Pots and Reckless Driving Wrecks Lives).
However, the group has also been looking more generally at problems around accidents and analysing the available data. This will allow for the development of a three-year plan to reduce the number of accidents in South Ayrshire.
In South Ayrshire the key accident types to tackle are road collisions, fire related accidents, accidents in the home and water-related accidents.
Over the three-year period we will continue to monitor the available data and to focus on new areas and issues that are identified.
Overall the group will continue carrying out the information gathering, implement projects and be adaptable to any new projects or initiatives where appropriate under the Community Safety Partnership 3 Year Plan 2005-2008.
