Community Safety |
Safe, Secure and Healthy communities are at the heart of South Ayrshire Council's aspirations. The Council is committed to building communities where people are not overshadowed by crime and the fear of crime, but flourish within a climate where social equality, opportunity and protection of the most vulnerable is nurtured.
Working together across agencies and departments to build safer communities across South Ayrshire is in the interests of the whole community. The partner agencies work closely together on a wide range of joint initiatives. South Ayrshire Community Safety Partnership has membership from the following organisations:
The Partnership is supported by the multi-agency Community Safety Unit , the Antisocial Behaviour Team and the Community Support Officers who are all managed by South Ayrshire Council.
Local voluntary organisations are now active members of the Community Safety Partnership's Working Group and sub groups. Carrick Crime Prevention Committee, Kyle Crime Prevention Committee, South Ayrshire Accident Prevention Committee and South Ayrshire Women's Aid have recently become full members of the group.
A range of other voluntary organisations play a significant part in the partnership through their dedication and commitment to the many projects that take place. These include:
Victim Support, Barnardo's Homeless Service, Enable, Ayr Rape Crisis, Ayrshire Council on Alcohol, Headway Ayrshire.
Community Safety is a theme group of the Community Planning Partnership.
A wide range of strategies and activities are in place with the aim of making South Ayrshire a safer place to live and work. These include:
South Ayrshire Community Safety Strategy 2005 - 2008
This three-year strategy guides the community safety work of the Partnership and receives funding from the Scottish Government to carry out its activities. Three key issues were identified through consultation and led to problem- solving groups being set up to tackle
South Ayrshire Antisocial Behaviour Strategy
A number of important initiatives under this heading are in place to deal with antisocial behaviour in South Ayrshire
South Ayrshire Monitoring Station (SAMS) is also part of the Community Safety Unit. This provides back-up through CCTV in dealing with crime and antisocial behaviour, working closely with Strathclyde Police and other partners. It also provides a range of out-of-hours back-up services to support other departments and agencies.
Consultation with people across the community, both through our current consultation exercise and our on-line questionnaire is a key aspect of our work. Analysing the most up to date I nformation and Research provided by our partner agencies is central to the work of the Partnership, making sure that we are responsive to real issues that affect the citizens of South Ayrshire.
The Community Safety Partnership has agreed a new three-year Community Safety Strategy 2005 - 2008, for which funding has been agreed by the Scottish Government
