A77 Maybole Bypass

The Transport Minister Nicol Stephen visited Maybole on the 8th December 2003 and announced funding for an initial study to look at the option of a Maybole Bypass on the A77 trunk road.

South Ayrshire Council welcome this announcement which is seen as a positive move to improve safety and congestion in Maybole, and improve access to and from the ferry terminals at Stranraer and Cairnryan.

This proposal is in accordance with the aspirations for Maybole outlined in the A77 GLASGOW TO STRANRAER - SOUTH Ayrshire COUNCIL ALTERNATIVE STRATEGY

The Scottish Government have now appointed Atkins to carry out the Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance (STAG) analysis for Maybole.

STAG is a document to aid transport planners and decision-makers in the development of transport policies, plans, programs and projects. It plays a crucial role in making certain that resources are used wisely and effectively.

As part of the consultation process, Atkins have approached South Ayrshire Council for comments which could help with their study.

"The A77 Trunk Road through Maybole - South Ayrshire Council's Proposals March 2005" has been prepared and submitted to Atkins for consideration.
