Roads and Transportation

A77 AND A78 TRUNK ROADS

A77 Symington and Bogend Toll

Transport Scotland, the new national transport agency for Scotland has appointed design consultants, Scott Wilson Scotland Ltd to manage and develop the improvement proposals for this section of A77. The consultants are reviewing the work carried out to date to identify a preferred scheme, considering the construction implications and developing specimen designs of the proposed improvements to progress these towards construction.

South Ayrshire Council staff continue their involvement in the project, providing support and local knowledge as part of the consultant's team.

There are still a number of stages to negotiate, notably the Statutory Procedures, before a definitive date for the start of construction can be given. The current programme shows construction commencing in early 2008. This is, however, dependant on the progress of the scheme through the Statutory Procedures.

Every effort will be made to avoid objections to the proposals by consultation with the affected parties.

The improvements will remove all right-turns onto and from the A77 and will include new grade-separated junctions (a bridge carrying the local side road over, or under, the A77) at Bogend Toll and at Symington village.

Transport Scotland are an executive agency directly accountable to Scottish Ministers and are part of the Scottish Executive's Enterprise, Transport and Lifelong Learning Department.

Transport Scotland are responsible for promoting and delivering improvements to the trunk road and rail network, and for major new road and rail projects.
