A77 Ayr to Stranraer - Road Safety Group

A77 Ayr to StranraerThe Scottish Executive have established the A77 Safety Group (external link) to focus on Road Safety issues that affect communities and road users on the A77 between Ayr and Stranraer.

This multi-disciplinary group is comprised of the Scottish Executive, Strathclyde Police, Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary, Amey Highways, South Ayrshire Council, Dumfries & Galloway Council and West Sound.

The Safety Group recognises that the A77 forms a vital transport corridor. The route carries a broad mix of road users comprising local drivers, commuters, freight transport and tourist traffic. The Safety Group will develop measures to improve both road safety and the road user’s experience on this length of the A77.

The measures will not only focus on engineering but also on education and enforcement.

Proposed improvements to the route will be advanced in consultation with interested parties.
