Rabbies Run

Thanks to all of you who took part in the very first Rabbie's Run on Sunday 5 June.

More than 160 runners took part in the 5k and 10k races including Minnie Mice, superheroes and two Staffordshire bull terriers!

With the weather staying dry – although we know some of you struggled against the wind! – the runners enjoyed a fantastic day out and raised more than a few smiles as well as a good few pounds for CLIC Sargent – the UK's leading children's cancer charity.

Taking the top spot for women in the 5k race was well known Ayr Seaforth runner Toni McIntosh in an impressive time of 19 minutes 35 seconds, followed by Allan Murray (21:20) and 11-year-old Jack Lewis (22:57). The remaining 101 runners then crossed the finish line at various times up to 64:16.

The youngest 5k runner with the fastest time was 9-year-old Jack Rae who finished in a fantastic 23:40.

Leading the pack in the 10k was Richard Cosby, who completed the course in an impressive 40 minutes 45 seconds, followed by Martin Graham (41:09) and Steven Connell (41:37).

The first woman to complete the 10k was Moira Connell in 49:08.

Thanks go to everyone who helped make the event such a success including the Council's Charities Team, CLIC Sargent, South Ayrshire Schools Pipe Band, the Citadel Leisure Centre, marshals and volunteers and, of course, all you fabulous Rabbie's Runners.

Rabbie's Run will now become an annual event for CLIC Sargent from 2012.

"Atmosphere was good, great to see the results on the SAC website, great to see the photos of all participants, great to get a goodie bag and t-shirt, although we only found the medals and goodie bags by accident! Would have been better to start the 10k before the 5k and have two separate lanes to and from the finish line. I will be encouraging my friends and kids to do it next year too."
