Energy Consents
The Priority Projects team deals with consultations from the Scottish Government
for large scale energy generation or energy transmission proposals, i.e. those with
a capacity of more than 50MW. Applications for this type of development are made
directly to the Scottish Government under Sections 36 and 37 of the Electricity
Act 1989. It should be noted that South Ayrshire Council is not the determining
authority on these applications, therefore comments on this type of proposal should
be sent to the Scottish Government Energy Consents Unit at the following address:
Scottish Government Energy Consents Unit
Renewable Energy Division
Directorate of Enterprise
Energy and Tourism
4th Floor
5 Atlantic Quay
150 Broomielaw
Glasgow G2 8LU
You can also follow the progress of Energy Consents applications on the Scottish
Government website.
Applications for proposals for energy generation or transmission of between 20MW
and 50 MW generating capacity are dealt with by Priority Projects as ‘Major Development’
Planning Applications. Proposals below the 20MW threshold are also dealt with by
the Priority Projects team, if the proposed electricity would feed into the national
transmission network (the electricity grid) rather than for personal, domestic or
specific business energy consumption.
