- During 2009/10, we helped 446 adults develop their skills in computing, parenting
and healthy living while building confidence.
- Through the Adult Literacy service, which offers a choice of one-to-one help or
learning in small groups, 745 adults improved their skills in reading, writing and
counting.
- 158 adults for whom English is not their first language improved their language
skills which helped them settle in the area and get jobs and accommodation.

- 8,937 young people aged 10-25 years developed their skills and confidence and active
citizenship with 1,171 receiving youth achievement awards.
- South Ayrshire’s Young Scot website has been in the top three local authorities
receiving the highest number of hits. Young people update the site, which provides

- 862 members of community groups increased their skills, confidence, networks and
resources while delivering local services.
- We are now the leading Scottish local authority in providing opportunities for young
people to participate in The Duke of Edinburgh's Award and have over 250 young people
successfully completing Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards each year.
- The Dolphin House outdoor centre provided over 200 residential days for young people
and celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2011. Meanwhile Active Schools – supported
by more than 200 volunteers – provided 35 different sporting activities, 63,773
participant sessions and 93 training courses.
