Ayr Town Hall
  • Curriculum for Excellence is being delivered in all our schools. Learners engage in active stimulating and challenging activities designed to meet all pupils’ needs, which will develop skills for learning, life and work. In October 2011, all school staff attended a Curriculum for Excellence festival to share best practice on developing aspects of the new curriculum.
  • Partnerships with parents are strong and there are Parent Councils in almost all schools. South Ayrshire parents are also represented on the National Parent Forum of Scotland. A Parent Conference is held on an annual basis to showcase developments in Curriculum for Excellence as well as good practice in school and parental partnerships.
  • In 2011, secondary school pupils across South Ayrshire achieved record exam results. Almost one-third of S5 pupils (29%) achieved three or more Highers, with almost half (46%) achieving at least one Higher qualification. Fourth year pupils did extremely well too, with 94% gaining at least five Standard Grade or similar qualifications, and 40% of fourth year pupils achieving five or more credit level Standard Grade or similar awards. These results marked the highest level of pupil performance in these areas for over five years.
  • Following the success of our Public Private Partnership schools, we are continuing to make very good progress in modernising our school estate with the completion of the new Colmonell Primary school, the completion of the modernisation of Symington Primary school, the modernisation of Forehill Primary school entering its final stage and the modernisation of Braehead Primary school getting underway.
