  • We aim to improve the health and quality of life of people in South Ayrshire by working in areas such as food safety, occupational health and safety, public health, environmental protection, housing standards, pest control and dog control.
  • In 2008/9, working in conjunction with the Out of Hours Noise Unit, we dealt with a total of 1360 noise complaints, 1193 of which related to domestic noise.  The average response time for domestic complaints was one hour. n terms of the Anti Social Behaviour etc (Scotland) Act 2004, 108 Warning Notices and 8 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued.
  • The ban on smoking in public places has been a national success and a resounding one in South Ayrshire.  During 2008/9 officers inspected 1625 premises and vehicles to offer advice, check for compliance or investigate complaints.  An overall compliance rate of 98.2% was achieved with only 29 fixed penalty notices issued. This confirms our businesses and residents have adapted well to the new legislation.
  • We completed 97.8% of all food hygiene inspections to food businesses in South Ayrshire on time. The food safety standard of compliance remains high within the area and the introduction of the new Food Hygiene Information Scheme in early 2010 will assist consumers to make informed choices.
  • Ten premises within South Ayrshire will be affected by the Public Health (Scotland) Act 2008, Regulation on the Provision of Sunbeds.  Under 18’s will no longer be legally eligible to use or hire sunbeds and unsupervised sunbed salons will be banned. There will also be a duty on operators to provide information to sunbed users on the effects of use.
