Community Care

  • We provide support for people to help them to continue to live in their own homes.
  • Our Services for Older People staff arrange care for more than 2000 South Ayrshire residents over the age of 65.
  • The support we offer includes Homecare, Day Care, Respite Care, Community Alarms and Meals at Home.
  • In 2005/6, 595 older people received ten or more hours of care in their own homes. This was 13% more people than in the previous year. Our target was to achieve a 5% increase.
  • Our Social Workers can also arrange Residential Care placements for older people.
  • At the end of March 2006, 866 older people had places in care homes, 9% more than in the previous year.
  • Our Services for Adults staff provide services to adults with learning disability, with physical disability, with sensory impairment and with mental health difficulties. This helps them to continue to live in their communities.
  • During the year, our specialist learning disability team moved 23 people with learning disabilities into their own homes. They helped a further five people to move from our day centre, enabling them to take part in other day time activities.
  • The Enquiry and Information Services Team provides a contact point for people who want to find out more about the services social work provide and the team also provides benefit advice to let people know what money they can claim.
