Wildlife - Maidens Shorefront

Part of Maidens shorefront forms part of the R.S.P.B. designated Ornithological Site, which runs from Girvan Harbour to Maidens. This area is an important over wintering ground for waders especially the redshank. Oystercatcher, shelduck, sandwich terns and golden plovers are other birds that are likely to be seen. The best time of year for sightings is between August and the end of March.

These birds will feed on the invertebrates that live in the mud and sediment such as tube worms and mud snails.
