Ayr is lucky enough to have three eighteen hole public golf courses. Belleisle golf course was designed in 1927 by James Baird who is famous for his courses at Gleneagles, Carnoustie and Dalmahoy. It is heralded as being the third best public course in Scotland, preceded only by St. Andrew and Carnoustie. Belleisle is a beautiful course with stands of mature trees and Rhododendron plantings, while in front of the starters office is a lovely little putting area with heather and azalea beds.
The neighbouring course of Seafield was originally a nine-hole course opened in 1904 however it was soon developed to accommodate a further nine. The course is a mix of parkland and links and there has been a great amount of re-styling and development over recent years. Ponds, streams, elevated greens and tees, bunker and tree planting all there for the unwary golfer.
Dalmilling golf course was laid out in 1961. The course is parkland in character landscape and borders the river Ayr and the Ayr racecourse, which provides some added interest to the golfer.
