Historic Places - Cambusdoon Estate

Cambusdoon Estate | Cambusdoon Wildlife | Cambusdoon Woodland

Cambusdoon was originally known as Greenfield Estate when it was purchased by Elias Cathcart in 1754. It was James Baird of Auchmedden who changed the name to Cambusdoon when he purchased the estate in 1852; Mr Baird also built the house, Scottish Baronial in style, which formally stood on these grounds.

In 1925 the Estate was bought and became the Ayr Preparatory School for boys, and remained a school until 1967. Unfortunately the house was demolished a couple of years later.
